Bins – the more, the merrier
Keeping gyms and pools clean
While not all strata properties include gym facilities and a pool, some do, and residents know how hard it can be to keep these areas clean. Ultimately, everybody needs to play their part in keeping these spaces clean, but the strata committee can make this task a lot easier.
In gyms, provide plenty of antiseptic wipes and encourage users to wipe down equipment before and after use. This can drastically reduce the spread of germs. Also, ensure there are appropriate bins available for waste. If you have willing committee members, perhaps use a roster to ensure somebody checks the gym once a day and tidies up if necessary.
Pools can be even more difficult, but providing plenty of bins, even paper towel and antiseptic wipe dispensers can encourage people to clean up after themselves. Your strata committee may even consider investing in autonomous pool cleaning robots or hiring someone to regularly clean and maintain the pool.
Signage
It may sound a little tired, and nobody likes having rules pushed in their faces every day. But if people aren’t respecting common spaces, something needs to be done. Clear signage reminding people to pick up after themselves can work wonders. You should also communicate your hygiene standards via email, on noticeboards and through any other means necessary. If English isn’t the first language for a large contingent of residents, consider having signs done in multiple languages too.
Let people know that hygiene is important, and if need be, the committee will issue warnings and notices to comply with by-laws. Sometimes, only a tough stance will work.
